According to legend, Zen Master and royal physician Nguyen Minh Khong once came here in search of herbal medicine to cure the king of the “tiger transformation” illness during the Ly Dynasty. In the mountainous area now known as Bai Dinh, he discovered a wide variety of naturally growing medicinal plants across the semi-mountainous terrain. He named the place “Sinh Duoc,” meaning “land where medicinal herbs grow,” and founded Bai Dinh Pagoda.
